Kenya Railways has welcomed four new premium coaches to its fleet for the Madaraka Express, aiming to elevate the travel experience on the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) route between Nairobi and the port city.
In an official announcement, KR confirmed the arrival of these coaches, which include four first-class, ten economy, one dining, and one power car alongside the premium coaches.
This upgrade promises passengers enhanced amenities such as spacious seating and entertainment options.
“The eagerly awaited Premium Class coaches have arrived.
They join ten economy-class coaches, one dining car, one power car, and four first-class coaches currently being offloaded at the Port of Mombasa,” stated KR in a release on X platform.
Setting themselves apart from standard carriages, each new premium coach accommodates 28 seats with ample legroom.
“KR Premium is poised to redefine luxury travel with its exclusive amenities and world-class comfort,” the corporation emphasized.
These premium coaches are designed to provide flexibility to passengers, allowing them to adjust their seating direction during the journey.
They also feature additional storage options for luggage, designated compartments for shoes, automated window shutters, and seats capable of rotating to face any direction, enhancing the overall comfort and convenience for travelers.
The introduction of these new coaches marks a significant step in Kenya Railways’ efforts to modernize and improve the Madaraka Express service, catering to both local commuters and tourists seeking a comfortable and enjoyable travel experience between Nairobi and Mombasa.
