Kenya Railways has announced the reopening of the Mombasa port, which had been temporarily closed over the weekend.
The closure, initiated on Saturday due to heavy rains, affected both the Mariakani and Mombasa Terminus.
In a statement issued on Monday, Kenya Railways communicated the resumption of cargo train operations to and from Mombasa.
“Loading and offloading of cargo at the Port of Mombasa has also commenced, and we are now working round the clock to minimize any delays,” the statement reads.
During the temporary closure, only passenger trains were permitted to traverse the affected section, albeit with stringent speed restrictions and continuous supervision throughout the weekend.

The safety measures were implemented to mitigate any risks associated with the aftermath of the heavy rainfall and landslides.
KR Said the passenger train will continue as scheduled.
