Board chairman Geoffrey Kipngetich Korir said Asha will be stepping down from her role as the Secretary General for personal reasons, effective April 14 2023.
“Dr. Asha will in the next few months support leadership transition as she hands over in acting capacity to the Deputy Secretary General Dr. Ahmed Iris.”
“The Board is confident that Dr. Asha will be able to oversee an effective transition process with the support of the Board, Staff, Volunteers and Partners of the Kenya Red Cross,” Kipngetich said.
D.r Asha has been the Secretary General since January 2020 and prior to that held the positions of Deputy Secretary General and Director for Health and Social Services at the Kenya Red Cross.
Her role as Secretary General coincided with global and local humanitarian context, from responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, to the worst drought the country has experienced in the last several decades.
Under her leadership, according to Kipngetich, Kenya Red Cross has lived up to its commitment of being “always there”, responding to emergencies and supporting communities.
Kenya Red Cross Society has been facing various challenges internally including claims of graft.
