Kenya has successfully secured a deal to send workers to Saudi Arabia, according to President William Ruto.
The agreement, finalized on Thursday, focuses on exporting skilled labor, including nurses, to the Middle Eastern nation.
President Ruto emphasized that this marks a shift from previous deployments, which mainly involved domestic workers.
The initial deployment is set to include 2,500 skilled workers.
President Ruto revealed on Friday that the workers dispatched to Saudi Arabia will receive a monthly salary of 200,000 Kenyan shillings, equivalent to $1,300 or £1,000.
Notably, this development follows Kenya’s recent commitment to send 1,500 workers to Israel, ensuring them a guaranteed net monthly income of $1,500, as announced by the labor ministry a week prior.

President Ruto’s efforts to secure employment opportunities for Kenyans extend beyond the Middle East.
In a diplomatic move, he traveled to Germany the previous month, negotiating for a substantial 200,000 job opportunities for his fellow countrymen.
Highlighting the global reputation of Kenyans for their hard work, President Ruto reiterated his commitment to addressing Kenya’s unemployment crisis.
He sees overseas employment as a practical solution, allowing Kenyans to contribute to the nation’s foreign exchange reserves.
President Ruto envisions this strategy not only reducing domestic unemployment but also assisting in bolstering Kenya’s financial standing, which has faced challenges resulting in a recent depreciation of the Kenyan shilling.
