Rebecca Miano, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade, and Industry, will lead a team from Kenya to the 13th Ministerial Conference (MC13) of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
The conference is happening in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, from February 26 to February 29, 2024.
This conference is all about discussing important trade policies.
That includes agriculture, support for the fishing industry, trade linked to sustainable development, digital trade, and making changes to the current global trading system.
Rebecca Miano’s main job at the conference is to help with talks about agriculture.
This has been a big topic at the WTO for a long time.

The Ministry of Trade said on Saturday that the Kenyan team will work hard to deal with issues in agriculture.
These include making sure there’s enough food and dealing with problems that mess up trade.
The ministry’s statement says, “We hope to make the agricultural trading system fairer and better for everyone.
We want to end hunger, improve food, and make farming more sustainable.
We also want to encourage better farming practices that increase how much food we produce.”
This is part of meeting Sustainable Development Goal 2 of the United Nations.
One big goal is to look out for small farmers and producers in poorer countries.
Kenya will take part in many talks during the conference.
They’ll join in discussions with groups of countries, like African trade ministers, ministers from Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific, and a coalition of trade ministers talking about climate change.
Rebecca Miano will also talk with trade ministers from other countries.
The aim is to make trade between Kenya and these countries better.
