A Kenyan man who had a Twitter account, where he pretended to be someone else, has been taken into custody due to claims without proof that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua wanted to harm Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro.
Silvance Adongo Abeta, the person behind the parody account using the name Karen Wanjiku HSC (@WanjikuHSC), was arrested on a Friday
Investigators believe he was spreading false information about Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and other government officials.
Abeta is facing several cybercrime charges, including cyberbullying and spreading unverified information.
The charge sheet stated, “The respondent is a notorious cyberbully who operates a parody Twitter (X) account known as @WanjikuHSC under the name Karen Wanjiku HSC.
To cover his true identity, the respondent uses the parody account to publish false information, bully, and cyber harass innocent Kenyan citizens.”
Abeta’s arrest followed a controversial post he made involving Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro.
Abeta is now seeking financial support from kind-hearted individuals to help him pay for his bail.
He has published a list online, which suggests that Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has contributed sh.15,000 to his bail fund, as shown on the crowdfunding platform.
