Eliud Kipchoge, the two-time Olympic marathon champion, is set to participate in the upcoming Tokyo Marathon on March 3, as confirmed by his NN Running Team.
This race will serve as a crucial preparation for Kipchoge as he gears up for the Paris Olympics in August, with a historic quest to secure a third consecutive gold medal in the marathon, a feat never achieved by any man in Olympic history.
Kipchoge, aged 39, holds the current Tokyo Marathon course record of two hours, two minutes, and 40 seconds, established during the 2021 race held in 2022.
Reflecting on his past achievements in Japan, he expressed his positive sentiments, saying, “I have good memories in Japan.
I won my Olympic gold medal there and ran the course record in the Tokyo marathon. I feel good working towards my next race in Tokyo.
For me, it is the perfect preparation towards my aim to win my third consecutive Olympic title next summer in Paris.”

His focus on Tokyo stems from the belief that a strong performance there will enhance his chances of making Olympic history once again.
Additionally, Dutch runner Sifan Hassan, the Olympic champion in the 5000m and 10000m events, is set to make her debut in the Tokyo Marathon.
Hassan made headlines in the marathon world this year by winning in London in April on her debut and securing the Chicago title in October.
“In the streets of Tokyo, I will be looking to continue my marathon journey,” said the 30-year-old Hassan.
“I want to learn from every marathon since every marathon is different, and I can’t wait to come to Tokyo.”
Her participation adds further excitement to the event, as she seeks to extend her success in the challenging world of marathon running.
