Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has protested the rip-off of profit-making by Safarilink Airline after overcharging him Sh13, 500.
The county boss Thursday through a statement said that he booked a 7 am flight to Kisumu from Wilson Airport in Nairobi on Safarilink Airline.
Upon calling his secretary in the evening to confirm the flight the next day, he was astonished to be told the airline was charging Sh19, 000 instead of Sh5, 000 to Sh7, 000 normal charges.
“I called one of the managers and protested. But since I had to travel for an urgent meeting in Kisumu, we paid Sh19, 000,” he said.
He has instructed the staff of the County Government of Kisumu not to use the airline beginning Thursday.
“Why is Safarilink engaged in this rip-off of its passengers in a bid to collect obscene profit from the gullible public? Do we have a consumer protection organization to act against this kind of rip-off?” the governor asked.
