KPA Reaffirms Commitment To Pension Scheme Sustainability

The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the future of the KPA Pension Scheme, with Chief Executive Officer Captain William Ruto assuring both serving employees and retirees that protecting their retirement benefits remains a top priority.

Speaking during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the KPA Pension Scheme (Defined Benefits) held at the Mbaraki Sports Club on Thursday, Capt. Ruto said the Authority values the contribution of both current and former employees to the growth of KPA and the country’s maritime sector.

“The Authority recognises that our employees are our greatest asset.
Everything we do as an organisation is built upon the dedication, discipline, and sacrifice of the men and women who serve this institution.

This recognition extends to our pensioners, whose hard work and commitment laid the foundation upon which we stand today,” he said.

Capt. Ruto reaffirmed KPA’s commitment to working closely with the Scheme’s Trustees and other stakeholders to strengthen governance, enhance financial stability, and ensure the long-term sustainability and security of members’ retirement benefits.

KPA Pension Scheme Chairman Omae Nyarandi praised the Authority for its continued support, saying the collaboration between KPA and the Trustees remains vital in safeguarding the retirement security of members and pensioners.

“The partnership between the Sponsor and the Trustees remains a critical pillar in ensuring the stability, resilience, and long-term sustainability of the Scheme,” Nyarandi said.

The AGM gave members an opportunity to review the Scheme’s performance, discuss key developments, and explore strategies aimed at improving the welfare of pensioners and active contributors.

The meeting was attended by KPA Board Directors Ahmed Ali Mukthar, Emmanuel Kibet, and Daniel Muriungi, as well as representatives from the Retirement Benefits Authority (RBA) and other stakeholders.
