Lang’ata’s well-known hotspot, nightclub 1824, has been forced to shut its doors.
Videos and pictures circulating online capture unidentified individuals hauling away furniture and other items from the club, while uniformed police oversee the scene.
In the images, the club’s distinctive whisky barrel tables are scattered across the front area, with a policeman surveying the scene.
The closure follows a court order freezing assets belonging to Wilson Nahashon Kanani, the owner of the renowned nightlife venue, just four months ago.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) presented evidence in an anti-corruption court, revealing that Kanani, a City Hall employee, possessed assets worth Sh.643 million while earning a modest Sh.55,000 salary.
Lady Justice Esther Maina granted permission in 2022 for the EACC to investigate allegations that Kanani, through his position, received bribes and kickbacks, accumulating a substantial amount of money and other assets, including two high-end vehicles.
Despite earning a net monthly salary of Ksh.55,000, court documents disclose that Kanani funneled Sh.506 million through bank accounts in his name and family members between January 2016 and October 2022.
This marks the second time that 1824 has faced closure; it underwent a police raid in 2022 due to a directive to close bars in residential areas, causing an online gossip frenzy.
Notably, the club had also been shut down in 2020 for violating Covid-19 regulations.
1824 stands as one of Nairobi’s oldest and most prominent nightlife establishments, located in Lang’ata but drawing patrons from all corners of the city for its esteemed entertainment offerings.
