A section of leaders from the Mt Kenya region have faulted Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over his new push to have the national cake shared based on population.
They said the move is divisive and backward in this era and need to be rejected.
Led by former Maringo-Hamza MCA Mark Ndung’u who also unsuccessfully vied for the Makadara parliamentary seat, the leaders told the DP stop his agenda and instead work hard to unite the country.
“He should focus on helping the president in uniting the country and ensure they deliver to Kenyans at large. This news drive he is pushing is ill-timed,” he said.
Ndungu said the current squabbles within a section of Mt Kenya leaders over supremacy is not good for development at large.
“We have the biggest share of this government in terms of appointments. Let those leaders show us what they have done for the region and not to shout when they have failed,” he said.
He told the leaders in government to focus on helping the president in delivering service.
He said they support Ruto in his leadership for now.
Ndungu argued Gachagua and his team had opposed the one man one vote one shilling drive and wondered when he changed his stand.
The leaders faulted Gachagua for supporting the push for one man one vote one shilling.
They said the leadership pushing for the one man one vote one shilling are allegedly driven by selfish interests.
They addressed a press conference at a Nairobi hotel.
They said there is an effort to undermine the constitution and claw back the gains made.
“We urge the president to reject such an attempt to claw back the gains of the constitution by someone who want to behave like a village elder in Mt Kenya,” he said.
He also said all Kenyans are equal and should be respected by all means.
Ndungu told the Kenya Kwanza leaders to focus in delivering services to the public and speak in unity.
“We are just two year since the last election and we are seeing these unnecessary squabbles in the government. We don’t want to we this for now.”
