Five teenagers from Karandit village, Kuresoi South, Nakuru County, are currently undergoing medical treatment in hospital after being struck by lightning while seeking shelter from heavy rains.
The incident, which occurred in the evening hours around 6:30 p.m., left the youths with injuries necessitating urgent medical attention.
Emily Cheruiot, the mother of the victims, recounted the terrifying experience. She revealed that she had warned one of the teenagers to put down their phone, recognizing the potential danger posed by the looming thunderstorm.
“Lightning struck at 6:30 p.m. amidst the heavy downpour, hitting the youths who were together in the same room.
Upon impact, they all collapsed to the ground, writhing in pain,” shared Cheruiot, who fortunately escaped unscathed.
Despite her caution, lightning struck the house where they had sought refuge, causing all the teenagers to collapse in agony.
