Likoni Ferry Upgrade to Feature New Skybridges and Bus Terminal

Construction of a new passenger terminal at the Likoni Ferry in Mombasa is progressing as part of a wider upgrade aimed at improving the movement of pedestrians and vehicles.

President William Ruto inspected the ongoing works on Thursday, October 1, as the project moves forward.

The President said the development is intended to create a more organised transport environment and improve the experience of the hundreds of thousands of people who use the ferry each day.

The upgrade will include new skybridges and a bus terminal, alongside improvements to the passenger facilities and traffic circulation at the crossing.

The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) is implementing the passenger terminal project under its broader Traffic Circulation Management Plan, which seeks to enhance safety and improve the efficiency of movement through the ferry.

The Likoni Ferry remains a key transport connection in Mombasa, serving more than 500,000 passengers and approximately 6,000 vehicles every day.

The ongoing improvements are expected to streamline the movement of commuters and motorists while providing better-organised facilities at one of the city’s busiest transport links.
