A 28-year-old woman, Vivian Akoth, is currently in custody at the Siaya police station following a tragic incident in which she allegedly stabbed her boyfriend, 35-year-old Charlton Obare, to death on Saturday night in the Mur-Ngiya sub-location of Siaya County.
The incident reportedly stemmed from suspicions of infidelity.
According to Grace Otieno, the Assistant Chief of Mur-Ngiya sub-location, the confrontation escalated shortly after Charlton returned home around 9:00 PM with a friend named Reagan.
Vivian followed them home, and shortly thereafter, a violent altercation ensued.
Reagan, who was present at the scene, stated that he heard a disturbance and subsequently saw Vivian fleeing the area, pursued by Charlton, who had already been stabbed in the chest.
Witnesses claim that Charlton appeared overwhelmed and collapsed shortly after the altercation.
Assistant Chief Otieno shared that Vivian reportedly called Reagan to check on Charlton’s condition and then arranged for a motorbike to take him to the hospital.
Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Authorities were notified, and upon their arrival at the scene, they transported Charlton’s body to the Siaya County Referral Hospital mortuary.
Initially, Vivian was nowhere to be found, but she later turned herself in to the Siaya police station, where she remains while investigations into the incident are underway.
Otieno urged the local youth to seek peaceful resolutions to conflicts, emphasizing the importance of communication over violence.
This incident highlights the growing concern over domestic violence and the need for community support systems to help individuals navigate personal disputes without resorting to harm.
As the investigation continues, community leaders are calling for an increased focus on mental health resources and relationship counseling to prevent such tragedies in the future.
