The Law Society of Kenya has given a seven-day ultimatum to Public Service Commission to provide information on the establishment of the Office of the Spouse to the Prime Cabinet Secretary.
LSK through the letter dated February 28, 2023, addressed to PSC CEO Simon Rotich demands answers to the legal framework that guides the establishment of the office, financial implication as well as the benefits that it shall accrue to the members of the public.
“Kindly, supply us with the information stated above within the next seven days to enable us to interrogate the same and satisfy ourselves as to the legality of the establishment of the office.
“Please note that we shall be constrained to move to court to challenge the establishment of the office if the information sought above is not made available upon the expiry period set out above,” the letter reads.
The Office of the Spouse to the Prime Cabinet Secretary was launched on February 24, 2023, at Movenpick Hotel, Nairobi.
Information from the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi indicated that the office was established by the government to complement the work being done by the Office of the First Lady and the Office of the Spouse to the Deputy President.
In defending the office, Mudavadi said he believes the days when the spouses of the political leaders appear in ceremonies and say or do nothing are gone.
“Tessie has stepped forward with Ushiriki Wema Initiative to scale down the huge gap that lies within the differently abled people in society,” he said.
