Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital in Nairobi County has reached a big achievement by reporting no maternal deaths in the last four months, showing a big improvement in healthcare.
Dr. Martin Wafula, the hospital’s CEO, said this success is because of upgrades made under Governor Johnson Sakaja’s administration.
Wafula mentioned that with new medical equipment and better facilities, they have improved how they care for mothers.
Now, all pregnant women are registered as soon as they come to the ward, so there are no delays in getting the care they need during childbirth.
“We have made our registration process faster so that mothers get care right away when they arrive, and they don’t have to wait while in labor,” Wafula said, praising Governor Sakaja’s leadership in making this happen.
To make sure they keep giving good service, the hospital set up a special team to check and improve how they take care of patients.
Suzanne Silantoi, the County Executive Committee Member for Health, said medical staff have also had six months of extra training to improve how they treat people.
Silantoi also mentioned they have fixed all the hospital machines so they work well and don’t cause problems for patient care.
Governor Sakaja’s team has also changed how Level 5 hospitals in Nairobi are run to make things work better.
They have updated who is on the hospital board and made the CEO more important than the medical chief, who now helps the CEO.
These changes show a strong effort to make healthcare better in Nairobi County and reduce the number of mothers dying during childbirth.
It’s part of a bigger plan to make sure everyone in the county gets good healthcare when they need it.
