The government has announced the completion of the Mama Rachel Ruto Specialist Hospital in Mutuini, Dagoretti South.
In a statement issued on Monday, August 31, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo said the facility had been upgraded from a 40-bed hospital into a 400-bed Level 5 referral facility.
Omollo said the hospital is currently being equipped with key medical systems, including CT scanners, dialysis units and modern theatre equipment.
He described the completion of the facility as part of the government’s efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery and advance Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
The hospital is also aligned with the Every Woman Every Newborn Everywhere (EWENE) framework, which seeks to accelerate efforts to reduce preventable maternal and newborn deaths.
According to Omollo, the facility will provide specialised maternity and newborn services, intensive and high-dependency care, renal services, advanced diagnostic services and neonatal support, including human milk banks.

The expanded services are expected to improve access to specialised healthcare while reducing pressure on major referral hospitals in Nairobi.
The completion of the Mutuini facility comes a week after Omollo announced the completion and equipping of a modern Maternal and Newborn Ward at Kibugua Level 3 Hospital in Tharaka-Nithi County.
The upgraded ward replaced an ageing maternity unit that had faced overcrowding and inadequate facilities, with the new facility expected to provide a safer and better-equipped environment for mothers and newborns.
