Police have launched investigations into the killing of a 24-year-old man who was allegedly abducted from his home by a group of assailants before his body was found hours later in Mumias West Sub-County, Kakamega County.
The sister to the deceased said she was asleep when she heard a knock on the door.
Upon opening it, she found a group of people outside the homestead carrying a bright torch.
The assailants forced their way into the house and took away her brother, Nehemiah Okwaro, also known as “Zeddy.”
At around 7:00 a.m., his body was discovered lying on a murram road.
Police officers visited the scene and found the body lying in a pool of blood with multiple deep cuts to the neck, head, hands, chest and legs, believed to have been inflicted with a sharp object.
The motive for the killing has not yet been established.
Crime scene investigators documented the scene before the body was moved to Butere Sub-County Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Police said investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest those behind the murder.
Meanwhile, police in Igoji Sub-County, Meru County, are investigating the death of a 40-year-old woman following a domestic dispute with her husband.
The incident was reported on Thursday by a man who told police that his wife, Mercy Kagendo, had returned home while intoxicated, leading to a disagreement between the two.
According to the report, at about 5 a.m. Kagendo asked for drinking water. Her husband said that when he attempted to wake her at around 7:30 a.m., she was unresponsive. He sought help from neighbours to take her to hospital, but they realised she had already died.
Police visited the scene and found the body lying on the ground about 50 metres from the couple’s house, covered with a blanket.
Police established that neighbours had moved her from the house with the intention of taking her to hospital but placed her on the ground after discovering she had died.
Investigators said there were no blood stains either on the body or inside the house. However, visible bruises were noted on the deceased’s left wrist, prompting police to treat the case as a suspected murder pending further investigations.
The scene was documented and processed before the body was moved to Kanyakine District Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Police are continuing investigations to establish the exact cause and circumstances of the woman’s death.
