In a heartbreaking incident in Kipsolu, Kericho County, a 27-year-old man was apprehended for allegedly stabbing his wife during a dispute at her parents’ home.
The tragic event occurred on Friday, January 26, as the suspect traveled from Borborwet to his wife’s residence to address their domestic issues.
The victim, Lonah Chepkemoi, 27, had left the suspect’s home following a disagreement, prompting him to pursue her to her parents’ house in an attempt to resolve their differences.
A quarrel ensued between the couple, leading the man to stab Chepkemoi on the left side of her neck.
She was swiftly taken to Kericho County Referral Hospital, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Upon visiting the scene, the police found that the suspect had been detained by the local chief.
A blood-stained kitchen knife, believed to be the murder weapon, was recovered by the officers.
To restore order, two warning shots were fired into the air, dispersing the crowd that had gathered.
The suspect, who narrowly avoided harm, is now in police custody as investigations are underway to determine the motive behind his actions.
Chepkemoi’s body is preserved at a mortuary, awaiting autopsy results.
In a separate incident in Kiambu County, authorities are probing the alleged suicide of a 24-year-old detainee at Mai-A-Ihii Police Station in Kikuyu.
The family of the deceased claimed that he was arrested and detained on Friday night, only to be informed of his apparent suicide when his mother visited the station on Saturday.
Ronald Kirui, the Kikuyu Police Commander, stated that statements had been recorded from both the officers on duty that night and the deceased’s family.
The body has been moved to a nearby mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
Kirui urged the public to remain patient as investigations into the incident are concluded.
