Police in Matungulu Sub County, Machakos County, are investigating a drowning incident in which a 37-year-old man died after falling into a septic tank while carrying out drainage work.
According to police, the incident was reported on Wednesday May 13 at Afya Phase One Estate in Malaa area.
Police visited the scene after it was established that the deceased, identified as James Kariuku Maina, had been hired earlier in the day to drain water from a newly constructed septic tank.
Preliminary reports indicate that while using a generator pump to drain water from the 18-foot deep concrete tank, the deceased allegedly slipped and fell inside, where he drowned.
Police, assisted by members of the public, retrieved the body from the tank.
No visible injuries were observed on the deceased.
The scene was processed and documented before the body was moved to Kangundo Level 4 Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem examination.
And police in Mbooni East Sub-county, Makueni County, are investigating a suspected murder after the body of an unidentified man was recovered from a dam in Waia Location.
According to police, the incident was reported on Wednesday when members of the public alerted authorities about a suspected decomposing body dumped at Kyangamati Dam within a farm.
At the scene, police recovered the body of an African male adult, estimated to be about 45 years old, wrapped in a gunny bag and tied with large stones inside the dam.
The body had already begun decomposing, suggesting it had been in the water for some time.
The scene was processed and documented before the unidentified body was removed to Makueni County Referral Hospital Mortuary for preservation and identification. Police have launched investigations into the incident.
Meanwhile, police in Cheptais, Bungoma County, launched investigations into the murder of a 54-year-old man whose body was found lying along a roadside near Spicas Hospital in Ngachi village.
The incident was reported after the body was discovered on Wednesday morning.
Police officers who visited the scene found the body of Peter Mboya Saboat lying on a footpath approximately 20 metres from his house.
The deceased had bruises on the head, lips and both legs believed to have been inflicted using a blunt object.
According to preliminary investigations, the deceased was allegedly assaulted after being found inside a cattle shed belonging to a man identified as Tito Chemiat.
Police said the suspect allegedly attacked the deceased before fleeing the area and remains at large.
Investigators suspect the body may have been moved from the original scene of the assault to the place where it was later discovered because there were no signs of struggle at the recovery site.
Detectives have launched a manhunt for the suspect as investigations continue.
