A middle-aged man drowned while swimming in River Kuja in Nyatike, Migori County, on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Majaliwa Mwalimu.
The incident was reported to police at about 1:45pm by Nyatike area chief Samson Onduso, who alerted authorities after the body was spotted floating in the river within Nyatike Sub-Location.
Police officers from Macalder Police Station and DCI Nyatike visited the scene and established that Mwalimu had been swimming in the river when he drowned.
The body was retrieved from the water and moved to Migori County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending postmortem examination.
Elsewhere, the body of a 62-year-old man was found floating in the Malewa River in Kaimbaga Location, Nyandarua County.
The deceased, identified as David Chege Kamau, was discovered in Ndemi village on Saturday morning after members of the public alerted the area chief, Paul Gichuhi.
Police officers who responded to the scene found the body floating face down in the river.
It had begun decomposing and emitted a strong odour, suggesting that the man had been in the water for some time.
Police said Kamau was known to be a heavy drinker and lived alone without a family.
Scenes of Crime personnel from Nyandarua Central processed the scene before the body was retrieved and moved to JM Kariuki Hospital mortuary.
An autopsy is expected to establish the cause and circumstances of his death.
And police are investigating the death of an unidentified man whose body was found along the railway line at Mackinon Trading Centre in Kwale County.
Members of the public reported spotting the body lying beside the railway line, with initial investigations indicating that the man may have been run over by an unknown train at an unknown time.
Crime scene management officers visited the scene and documented the area.
The deceased was identified as an African male adult of unknown age.
Police photographed and processed the scene and collected relevant evidence for further investigations.
The body was removed and taken to Moi County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending identification and postmortem examination.
