A man has been brought before a Mombasa court on charges of stealing Sh1.4 million.
Steve Marvin Njagi is accused of breaking into a car and taking the substantial amount of money.
The alleged theft occurred on June 6 at the Naivas parking lot in Likoni. According to the charge sheet, Njagi broke into a Nissan X-Trail, registration number KDJ 505H, and stole Sh1,450,000.
Police allege that Njagi is associated with a notorious gang responsible for a series of car break-ins across Mombasa and neighboring areas.
His arrest followed a well-coordinated operation by detectives from the DCI Lang’ata, who tracked him to his hideout in Nairobi.
Njagi’s arrest is part of a wider crackdown on vehicle prowling, a persistent problem affecting many urban centers in Kenya.
Theft from motor vehicles remains a significant concern for both law enforcement and the public, as criminals often exploit unsecured vehicles and valuable items left inside.
In response to this ongoing issue, authorities are advising the public to take preventive measures to protect their vehicles.
“Install anti-theft devices, and always park in safe, well-lit, and visible areas,” urged the DCI in a statement.
“Before parking, remove or hide any items that might attract thieves. Ensure your car windows and doors are closed and locked, and never leave your keys inside the vehicle.”
The push for heightened vigilance underscores the importance of safeguarding personal property in the face of rising vehicle-related crimes.
