Man Found Murdered In Biafra, Nairobi


An unidentified man was found dead floating in the Nairobi River beneath Biafra Bridge in Nairobi’s Eastlands area on Wednesday morning.

According to police members of the public alerted authorities at about 8:11 a.m. after spotting a body in the river.

Police officers responded to the scene and recovered the body of an unknown African male adult believed to be about 30 years old.

Preliminary observations indicated that the deceased may have drowned, although the exact cause and circumstances of his death have not yet been established.

Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers from Buruburu documented the scene before the body was removed from the river.

The remains were transferred to the Nairobi City Mortuary, where they are awaiting post-mortem examination and formal identification.

Police have launched investigations to determine the identity of the deceased and establish how he ended up in the river.

And an 18-year-old woman drowned in River Nyando in Muhoroni Sub-county, Kisumu County, after being swept away by strong currents while swimming.

According to police, Idah Atieno Okoth drowned at Omanyi Village in Kabar East Sublocation at about 5:55 p.m.

Police said the deceased had gone to the river with two companions, Emmaculate Awino and Gordon Omondi, to wash clothes. After completing the chore, Atieno reportedly decided to swim in the river.

While in the water, she was swept away by the current.

Her companions and other residents attempted to rescue her, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

Police officers visited the scene and conducted the necessary investigations before the body was recovered and moved to Othoo Funeral Home.

The body is awaiting a post-mortem examination as authorities continue with the standard inquiry into the drowning incident.

Elsewhere, a 23-year-old man was found dead early Wednesday morning in Viongozi area on the boundary of Nyamira North and Nyamira South sub-counties in what police are treating as a murder.

The body of Daudi Ong’era Kisii was discovered at about 6 a.m. on June 24.

The incident was reported three hours later by his brother.

Police officers visited the scene and established that the deceased was found lying in Bonyarorande Sublocation, Kiabonyoru Division, a few metres from the Kebirigo–Ekerenyo road.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Ong’era had accompanied a friend and several other people to the main road at about 10 p.m. on Tuesday night.

He was reportedly in good health when they parted ways.

However, he was later found dead at the Viongozi area.

Investigators noted that the deceased had a head injury on the left side, believed to have been inflicted by a sharp object. Blood was also seen oozing from his mouth.

Scenes of Crime officers processed the area as detectives launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify those responsible.

The body was moved to Our Lady of Mercy Ibara Mission Hospital mortuary for preservation pending a post-mortem examination.

Police said investigations are ongoing.
