A man, Ahmed Salah Mohamed, has been apprehended by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for allegedly selling counterfeit milk powder worth an estimated Sh.1.7 million in Mombasa.
The arrest unfolded during a coordinated sting operation, jointly executed by the DCI’s Operation Support Unit, the Kenya Dairy Board, and the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
The suspect, Mohamed, was taken into custody, and law enforcement officials seized 66 bags of suspected contraband milk powder from his store on Biashara Street in Mombasa.

The DCI disclosed the specifics of the confiscated items, stating, “The following products were recovered; 41 bags of hilwa full cream milk powder each 25 kg and 25 bags of Brookside full cream milk powder each 25 kg.”
KRA officials appraised the taxable value of the seized products at Sh.1,650,000 and transported them to the KRA Changamwe warehouse as evidence.
During questioning, Mohamed claimed that he had acquired the counterfeit shipment from a partner named Dahir, whose storage facility is located in Shimanzi, Mombasa.
The DCI noted, “The said Dahir had been arrested during an earlier operation in Nairobi, and investigations are ongoing to trace his Mombasa warehouse for inspection of the stored products.”
