A 25-year-old man was stabbed to death in Migori County early Thursday, triggering retaliatory attacks in which angry residents torched the suspected killer’s homes and business.
Police said the incident occurred at Mikei School and Mine Village in Nyatike Sub-County.
The deceased was identified as Calvince Otieno Owingo, whose body was found lying in a pool of blood on a road after officers responded to reports of a murder.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Owingo was allegedly stabbed by a known suspect following a disagreement whose cause has not yet been established.
Police said the victim sustained multiple stab wounds to the neck, head and chest.
Following the killing, angry members of the public descended on the suspect’s home and set ablaze two semi-permanent houses before also burning down his kiosk at Sayote Centre.
Nothing was salvaged from the fires, and property of unknown value was destroyed.
Officers processed the crime scene before moving the body to the Migori County Referral Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police said the suspected murder weapon, believed to be a knife, has not been recovered, while investigations are ongoing to trace the suspect and establish the circumstances that led to the fatal confrontation.
And police have launched investigations after the body of a 30-year-old man was found dumped on a murram road in Suna West Sub-County, Migori County.
The deceased was identified as Redrick Mutuku, a Kamba man aged about 30 years.
According to police, officers on patrol responded to reports from residents on Wednesday night and found the body lying in the middle of a road behind the Total filling station within the Kowino area.
A preliminary examination revealed that the victim had sustained a deep cut wound to the back of the head, believed to have been inflicted by unknown assailants.
Investigators suspect the man may have been killed elsewhere before his body was dumped at the scene in an attempt to conceal the crime.
Crime scene investigators processed and documented the area before the body was moved to the Migori County Referral Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police have launched investigations to identify those responsible and establish the motive behind the killing.
