Mara Sugar Technical Director Boniface Ambani has expressed his determination to foster “healthy competition” in the Kenyan Premier League as his team seeks to secure victories.
Despite being newcomers, Mara Sugar, the 2023 National Super League Champions, currently ranks fourth with seven points three points behind leaders KCB having achieved two wins, one draw, and one loss in the early stages of the 2024-25 season.
Ambani made it clear that his team is not just there to make up the numbers.
“We don’t need to make statements; we know we’re up against experienced teams. This is our first time in the Premier League, and we are focused on our goals,” he remarked.
The former Harambee Stars and AFC Leopards striker emphasized his competitive mindset.
“I’ve never entered a league just to participate; my aim is to compete and win titles.
Since Mara Sugar’s promotion to Division One, our mission has always been to secure victories.”
He underscored that their success is not merely a coincidence, but a reflection of their hard-earned achievements that have brought them to the top tier.
Ambani also urged referees to uphold fairness in officiating.
“If match officials carry out their duties impartially like those who managed our narrow 1-0 loss to Bandari in Mombasa I’m confident our league is on an upward trajectory,” he asserted.
Looking ahead, Mara Sugar is set to host Shabana on October 19, followed by matches against Posta Rangers and AFC Leopards.
Ambani’s commitment to competition and fair play could set the tone for an exciting season as his team aims to prove their mettle in the top tier of Kenyan football.
