A Mash Poa bus travelling to Kampala was set ablaze by angry boda boda riders following a fatal road accident at Salgaa, along the Nakuru–Mau Summit highway.
The incident happened on the morning of Monday, December 22, after the bus was involved in a collision that killed a motorcyclist. The rider’s death reportedly provoked fellow boda boda operators, who retaliated by torching the vehicle a short distance from Salgaa Police Station.
Images and footage circulating online showed the bus completely engulfed in flames, with thick plumes of smoke rising into the air as bystanders looked on.
In a statement, the Long Distance Drivers and Conductors Association said the bus was burned moments after the crash, describing the incident as having occurred just outside the police station. The Motorist Association strongly condemned the act, urging security agencies to pursue those responsible and bring an end to the growing trend of retaliatory attacks on public service vehicles.
The association termed the incident tragic and unacceptable, calling on law enforcement agencies to take decisive action to deter similar violence in future.

The Salgaa incident mirrors a previous case earlier this year when boda boda riders torched a Super Metro bus on Thika Road after a motorcyclist was killed in a separate accident. In that case, Super Metro explained that the crash occurred when a motorbike rider, overtaking at speed, lost control while avoiding a tuk-tuk and was fatally struck by the bus.
Both incidents have reignited concerns over road safety, mob justice, and the escalating tensions between motorists and boda boda operators on Kenyan highways.
