Social media influencer Scophine Aoko Otieno, widely recognized as Maverick Aoko, has finally spoken out after being discovered at the Kenya-Tanzania border following a mysterious disappearance.
Her aide confirmed on November 1 that Aoko had been missing for nearly ten days, with her last tweet appearing on October 22.
According to the aide, the family was informed by a hospital where Aoko was brought by an unidentified individual who reportedly found her outside their property.
“She’s been found at the Kenya-Tanzania border.
A hospital called her family. She was taken there by an unidentified person who said they found her outside their gate,” the aide shared on Aoko’s X account.
The aide also mentioned that Aoko’s father was on his way to the hospital, and they promised updates while thanking supporters for their concern.
However, no images or videos of Aoko were released at the time, and she remained silent for an additional week.
On November 8, Aoko broke her silence through her X account, reassuring Kenyans of her well-being and confirming that the person previously posting on her account had her and her family’s consent.
Acknowledging public skepticism, she reiterated that her account’s security was intact, with passwords regularly updated.
“Your clamor, fervor, noise, agitation, and prayers kept air in my lungs and blood in my heart. Asante for every tweet, retweet, call, concern, message, and voice that spoke out for me.
Grateful that I am getting adequate care.
The spirit remains sound, the resolve is bolstered, rather than punctured, for no amount of spittle can quench a furnace,” she stated.
Aoko promised to reveal the details of her ordeal when she recovers, saying, “What happened? I will tell you, oh I will expose every minute detail, every crumb. But we will converse more, dear friends, when I get better.”
Her disappearance had sparked widespread concern among Kenyans, including public figures.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna raised issues regarding her absence, emphasizing the responsibility of the police to protect citizens.
“Let us not sit here thinking that we are immune to this.
Anybody can be plucked from the streets. Blogger Maverick Aoko has not been found up to now.
What sort of country is this?” Sifuna questioned during a Senate session.
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, a close associate of Aoko, also called for her release, stating, “Aoko has been missing for days…
I have reached out to her family members and close friends, but no one knows where she is.”
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President, Faith Odhiambo, similarly demanded Aoko’s immediate release and encouraged citizens to use the society’s hotline to share any information related to her disappearance.
