A family in Laare, Meru County, is seeking justice for their loved one, Phineas Mutharimi, after he was found dead shortly following his arrest by Nyumba Kumi officials.
According to reports, the Nyumba Kumi officials in KK Etama village detained 24-year-old Mutharimi around 11 pm on May 29.
His father, Mr. Samuel M’Imunya, recounted that his son’s body was discovered abandoned in a bush approximately 10 kilometers away from where he was apprehended, just two days later.
The family described visible injuries to his head and chest, with one hand showing signs of being broken.
M’Imunya revealed that he received a call from a Nyumba Kumi official in their village, notifying him that his son had been taken to KK Etama Police Post in Antuambui location.
However, upon visiting the police post the following morning, they discovered that Mutharimi had not been logged there.
“He was also not at Laare police station. We made a report of a missing person and kicked off the search,” M’Imunya expressed.
Mutharimi’s brother, Reagan Ndereba, confirmed that the body was transported to Nyambene Level Four Hospital for further examination.
Charles Wambugu, the Deputy County Commissioner of Igembe North, disclosed that detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations were delving into the case.
The circumstances surrounding Mutharimi’s death have raised questions and concerns within the community, prompting calls for a thorough investigation to ascertain the events leading up to his demise.
The family, devastated by the loss of their son, is pleading for answers and justice as they grapple with the shock and grief of his sudden and tragic passing.
The investigation into Mutharimi’s death remains ongoing as authorities work to unravel the mystery and provide closure to his grieving family.
