Detectives at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) have found illegal drugs worth more than Sh. 9 million.
These drugs, which weigh over one kilogram, were hidden inside bicycle saddles.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reported that the drugs were on their way to Jakarta, Indonesia.
They had been cleverly hidden among items that were declared as bicycle accessories in a shipment from Moroni, Comoros.
Alert detectives at the airport, whose job is to deal with immigration crimes and suspicious cargo, noticed something fishy about this shipment.
When they checked it more closely, they discovered brown packages inside eleven bicycle saddles.
These packages contained a white crystalline substance.
“Interpol operations have since been launched to identify the faces behind the illicit trade for arrest and prosecution,” detectives added.
Lab tests confirmed that the substance was methamphetamine, a highly illegal drug.
Detectives are now working with Interpol to find and arrest those responsible for this illegal trade.
This incident is part of the ongoing efforts in Kenya to stop the abuse and trafficking of drugs and other harmful substances.
The DCI wants to send a clear message that Kenya is not a safe place for people involved in such illegal activities, no matter who they are.
