Basketball legend Michael Jordan has reached a remarkable milestone in his business journey.
He’s now one of the top 400 wealthiest people in the United States, according to Forbes.
Jordan made it to the Forbes 400 list, ranking at number 379.
He achieved this by selling most of his ownership in the Charlotte Hornets, a basketball team, earlier this year.
Forbes estimates that Jordan’s total wealth is around $3 billion.
He became a billionaire back in 2015, not just because of his partnership with Nike but also thanks of lucrative deals with companies like Hanes, Gatorade, and Upper Deck.
Jordan is also well-known for his generous acts of giving.
To celebrate his 60th birthday, he made a record-breaking donation of $10 million to Make-A-Wish America.
This was the largest donation ever made by an individual to the foundation in its 43-year history.
During his impressive 15-year career in the NBA (National Basketball Association), Jordan won five MVP awards and six championships with the Chicago Bulls.
Many consider him to be the greatest basketball player of all time.
He retired for the final time in 2003 after playing two seasons with the Washington Wizards.
Back in 2010, Jordan purchased the Charlotte Hornets for about $275 million.
However, in June, he sold most of his ownership to a group led by Gabe Plotkin and Rick Schnall.
This sale catapulted him onto the Forbes 400 list, although he still holds a minority ownership stake in the team.
It’s worth noting that Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, holds the top spot on the Forbes 400 list with an estimated worth of $251 billion.
He’s ahead of Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, who is estimated to be worth $161 billion.
Forbes reports that the combined wealth of the 400 richest people in America now stands at a staggering $4.5 trillion.
This equals the record set in 2021 and is slightly higher than the GDP of Japan in 2022, which was $4.23 trillion according to the World Bank.
