A Migori businessman who brutally murdered his wife in August last year in Nyatike Sub-County was on Saturday night arrested after seven months on the run.
Yusto Otieno Seth is suspected of having murdered his wife, Quinter Aoko Abito, at their residence on August 10 over a disagreement about money.
Detectives are also investigating reports that about Sh6 million was withdrawn from the deceased’s bank account after her death.
After killing his second wife, Otieno is said to have locked the body in one of the rooms and taken his children to their maternal grandmother in Osiengo, Suna East Sub County.
“This was to enable him to dispose of the body. It is suspected that he also injected the body with embalming fluid to preserve it,” police said.
One of the sons became suspicious and informed his grandmother and the following day, they returned to their home, accompanied by the grandmother, Caren Awino Abito.
They found the door locked and they reported it to the nearest police.
The officers broke into the house and found the body had been removed from one of the rooms and put in the corridor.
“The Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer ordered the door to be forcibly opened and the deceased’s body was found lying in the corridor of the bedroom. Some exhibits were recovered from the house and the body was photographed and documented,” the police report read.
The man had hired a Toyota Probox to ferry the body but managed to escape.
Reports indicate that the two who worked at Osiri gold mine had differed the previous day over some money issues.
Detectives launched investigations and traced him in Morogoro, Tanzania.
He however managed to escape and it was later established that he shifted to Mwanza.
On Saturday he sneaked back into the country and went to the residence of his first wife, about 2km from the residence of the deceased wife.
Detectives who had been monitoring this movement were alerted and arrested him at around 7.30 pm.
The first wife was away attending a funeral and the suspect was found relaxing in bed while ‘Facebooking.’
He is expected to be charged with the murder on Monday, March 13.
