Residents of Migori County are expressing frustration over a persistent water shortage that forces them to travel long distances to collect water from rivers and a limited number of wells.
County Water Officer Rhoda Nchagwa explained that efforts are underway to address the issue.
She stated that the department is currently repairing an old pump and is awaiting the delivery of a new one.
“We are actively working to resolve the water shortage.
We experienced a breakdown of the water pumps, particularly from the Oyani area, which is a key supply source,” she said.
Nchagwa also mentioned that the county is planning to clear an outstanding debt of sh. 11 million owed to Kenya Power.
This will be done as soon as the county receives its allocation from the national government.
John Abuya, chairman of the Migori County Water and Sanitation Company board, assured that the board is collaborating closely with the county government to tackle the water shortage issue.
