In Mandera County, suspected militants from the Al-Shabaab group carried out an assault on the National Police Service’s Quick Response Unit (QRU) Camp on Friday morning.
According to police reports, over 20 heavily armed militants approached the camp from the northwest, launching their attack within 100 meters of the camp.
A police report on the incident states, “Officers who were alert responded swiftly and engaged them for 15 minutes but managed to repulse them.”

Despite the intense 15-minute gun battle that followed, officers at the camp successfully retaliated, causing the militants to retreat.
Fortunately, no police officers were killed or injured during the incident.
The police report reassured, “No injuries on our side, and all officers accounted while on the enemy side pending confirmation during clearance at first light.
Currently, the situation is under control.”
