The Ministry of Health and the Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists’ Union (KMPDU) are scheduled to meet on Monday for discussions aimed at ending the ongoing nationwide doctors’ strike.
KMPDU Secretary General Dr. Davji Atellah announced in a statement that the meeting presents an opportunity for both parties to engage in constructive dialogue and address the issues outlined in the Union’s strike notice.
The union emphasized that the strike would persist until their demands are addressed, urging doctors to refrain from work until a resolution is reached.
KMPDU stated, “We understand the challenges and sacrifices each of you is making, and we want to assure you that your efforts are not in vain.
Your unwavering commitment to our cause is what strengthens our position at the negotiating table.”
Among the grievances cited by the union are the Ministry of Health’s failure to assign medical interns and non-compliance with their 2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), among other concerns.
Despite a court order issued last week by Employment and Labour Relations Court Judge Byram Ongaya, suspending the doctors’ strike to facilitate negotiations, doctors have maintained their stance.
The strike, which commenced on Thursday, March 14, 2024, persists until a resolution is achieved through dialogue.
