Ashley Nyaboke, a grade six pupil at Muthangari Primary was with her family on Thursday morning in their house when the water swept the structure.
Maumau River running through the area had swollen following the rains.
Her mother was rescued by locals but the girl was swept downstream.
Locals intensified a search for the girl in vain.
“We have tried looking for the girl in vain because the river is still raging. We have even been forced to call off the search over the heavy rains, ” said a resident.
Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai said many people in Waruku slums were affected by the floods caused by heavy rains on Wednesday night.
He joined locals in the search for the child.
Many were left homeless following the incident.
Police said they received reports of floods in most estates in Nairobi. Many roads were also left impassable following the rains.
Officials have warned of more rains in the coming days and urged caution.
