Moi University Open To Dialogue  With Locals Following VC Controversy

Moi University’s management is willing to engage in discussions with residents of Kesses in Eldoret, the location of the main campus.

This move is an effort to strengthen the relationship with the local community after recent protests calling for changes in leadership at the institution.

On September 27, demonstrators called for the removal of the current Vice Chancellor, Isaac Kosgey, citing concerns about alleged poor management.

They expressed support for the institution’s former acting Vice Chancellor, Laban Ayiro, as a more effective leader.

Senior lecturer Professor Masibo Lumala, speaking to reporters on November 30, stated that the university administration is prepared to enter into dialogue with the community to address the issues raised during the protests

He emphasized the desire to involve the community in planning and celebrating Moi University’s 40th anniversary next year.

We wouldn’t want to have a scenario where the University has challenges with the local community,” Lumala said.

He also mentioned that some concerns raised by residents had already been addressed, highlighting the university’s commitment to ensuring a positive and empowered community.

Among the issues raised was the alleged presence of alcohol and drug abuse within Moi University, with accusations that VC Kosgey has not adequately addressed these concerns

The university administration acknowledges the need for dialogue to address these issues and improve the overall relationship with the local community.

The Vice-Chancellor must go home.

There is alcohol and drug abuse inside Moi University, and the man in charge of leading the University cannot be bothered to snuff out the issue,” voiced a local resident during the protests.
