A Mombasa court has ordered that Kenyans who have left their vehicles and motorcycles at Mikindani Police Station must collect them within seven days, after which the items will be sold at a public auction.
The notice, issued on December 20, 2024, highlights that several vehicles, including motorbikes, trucks, pickups, and Tuktuks, are among those available for sale.
Many of these items are being offered at prices significantly lower than their market value, prompting potential buyers to place their bids before the deadline expires.
The sale is being conducted under the Disposal of Uncollected Goods Act, Cap. 38 of the Laws of Kenya, following an order from the Chief Magistrate’s Court at Maua Law Courts (Miscellaneous Case No. E31 of 2024).
In a separate announcement, Kenyans who have not collected their belongings from the Inland Container Depot in Nairobi are being urged to do so within 30 days.
After this period, unclaimed goods will be auctioned between January 20 and 22, 2025.
A notice has been issued by the Customs Warehouse Keeper, warning that any uncollected items will be deemed abandoned and disposed of accordingly.
Similarly, a private auto company in Nairobi has announced that it will auction three vehicles, including a trailer and a truck, unless the owners reclaim them by providing proof of ownership and settling outstanding fees.
This announcement follows a previous notice where several vehicles were put up for auction in Nairobi for as low as sh 50,000 to sh 60,000, after owners failed to collect their property within the required time frame.
The auctions will be managed by established auctioneers, primarily based in Nairobi, who specialize in selling uncollected vehicles and goods.
