Authorities in Mombasa have apprehended three individuals linked to a disturbing incident involving the assault of a 25-year-old blogger by a group of over 20 people.
James Lelia, the county’s criminal investigation officer, reported that one male suspect is accused of directly perpetrating the sexual assault, while two females are believed to have orchestrated the crime.
Footage captured at a local restaurant shows one of the female suspects being taken into custody by plain-clothed police officers who had been monitoring the situation for some time.
Lelia stated that the suspects are currently being interrogated at a police station and are set to appear in court on Monday to face charges related to the incident that occurred in Bamburi.
As the investigation progresses, police are actively seeking additional suspects involved in the crime.
Those already detained are expected to assist in identifying and apprehending other individuals connected to the case.
Human rights organizations in Mombasa have condemned the assault and urged law enforcement to expedite their investigations.
