Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has announced his intention to join Raila Odinga’s Azimio Coalition.
Kuria made the announcement on Monday after meeting with Odinga at his Capitol Hill office in Nairobi.
This decision follows Kuria’s recent dismissal from President William Ruto’s Cabinet, which occurred during a significant government reshuffle.
In a statement to Capital FM, Kuria explained that his move to align with the Azimio Coalition reflects his confidence in the inclusive approach of Ruto’s newly restructured government, which is now working in closer collaboration with Odinga.
“My meeting with Odinga demonstrates my belief in the government’s new, broad-based approach and its commitment to national unity,” Kuria said in a phone interview with Capital FM.
He emphasized that his alignment with Azimio represents a vote of confidence in the inclusive nature of the current administration.
Kuria was among the Cabinet Secretaries not reappointed by President Ruto following recent reshuffles, which were influenced by widespread GenZ protests.
During his discussion with Odinga, Kuria expressed his appreciation for Odinga’s willingness to step back and work towards national stability.
The Cabinet reshuffle saw the inclusion of four high-profile members from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) into Ruto’s government.
These appointees include John Mbadi as Treasury Cabinet Secretary, Wycliffe Oparanya in Co-operatives, Hassan Joho overseeing Mining, and Beatrice Askul Moe managing the East African Community.
Kuria voiced strong support for the collaborative effort between Ruto and Odinga, stressing the importance of a national dialogue to address the country’s ongoing challenges.
“We agreed that addressing the nation’s issues requires more than temporary solutions,” Kuria remarked.
“The forthcoming national dialogue should aim for meaningful structural reforms to provide long-term solutions.
We are committed to working closely on this and engaging with other leaders who share our vision for a better Kenya.”
This move marks a significant shift in Kenya’s political landscape, with Kuria’s alignment with the Azimio Coalition highlighting a new phase in the country’s political realignment and dialogue efforts.
