Mumias East Member of Parliament, Peter Salasya, is in hot water after allegedly threatening to harm the magistrate who ruled in favor of a businessman owed Ksh.500,000 by the legislator.
Magistrate Gladys Kiama, presiding over the Kakamega Small Claims Court, directed Salasya to settle a debt with Robert Lutta, which included interest and legal costs.
This decision came after Lutta filed a case on December 13, 2022, challenging Salasya to repay a loan within two months, as agreed.
Following the court ruling, Salasya, a first-time parliamentarian, reportedly confronted Magistrate Kiama outside the courtroom and issued threats against her life.
“Around 1230 hours at Kakamega Law Courts, after delivering a judgment in a small claims matter against Hon. Peter Salasya, MP for Mumias East Constituency, he threatened to kill her and then fled,” stated a report filed at Kakamega Police Station.
The Kakamega Police are currently investigating the incident, with plans to apprehend the MP for appropriate charges.
During the hearing, Salasya denied borrowing money from Lutta, asserting that he had actually loaned the businessman Sh.1 million through his political advisor, Bernard Kemba.
However, Magistrate Kiama dismissed Salasya’s claims due to a lack of supporting evidence.
“I also note that there was nothing to support the allegations that the claimant borrowed money from the respondent; there was no evidence to support his claim,” emphasized Magistrate Kiama.
