Namibia is grieving the loss of its President, Hage Geingob, who passed away at the age of 82 while undergoing medical treatment at a Windhoek hospital.
Vice-President Nangolo Mbumba delivered the somber news, revealing that the President had breathed his last in the early hours of Sunday morning, surrounded by his beloved wife, Madame Monica Geingos, and their children.
The late leader had recently disclosed his battle with cancer to the public, and despite the diagnosis, he remained resilient.
Last month, he shared his plans to seek medical treatment in the United States, with a scheduled return to Namibia on February 2. However, fate had different plans.

Having assumed the presidency in 2015, Mr. Geingob was in his second and final term in office.
His journey was marked by both triumphs and health challenges, including a successful survival of prostate cancer in 2014 and an aortic operation the previous year.
As Namibia prepares for its upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections in November, the ruling Swapo party, which has held power since the country’s independence in 1990, has chosen Mrs. Nandi-Ndaitwah as its presidential candidate.
Currently serving as Namibia’s deputy prime minister, she stands poised to make history as the nation’s first female president if successful in the election.
The legacy of President Hage Geingob will undoubtedly be remembered as the nation reflects on the path ahead.
