In response to the security alert issued by the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi on Friday, the National Police Service (NPS) has assured the public of heightened security measures across Kenya.
The alert from the U.S. Embassy warned of potential terror attacks targeting popular spots frequented by foreigners, including tourists.
The NPS has announced that police forces nationwide are on high alert to safeguard the country.
The service emphasized its commitment to a multi-agency approach for ensuring national security, working in close collaboration with other security bodies at various levels and employing intelligence-led policing strategies.
“The National Police Service wants to reassure the public of their safety and security.
Our officers deployed throughout the country are vigilant and prepared to protect against any threats,” stated the NPS.
The service also urged citizens to assist in maintaining safety by reporting any suspicious activities or individuals.
Residents are encouraged to report any concerning behavior to the nearest police station or use the toll-free numbers 112, 991, and 999, as well as the #FichuakwaDCI hotline at 0800722203.
This heightened alert comes after the U.S. Embassy cautioned its citizens to exercise increased vigilance due to the risk of terrorism and kidnapping.
The embassy highlighted that popular locations such as hotels, restaurants, embassies, malls, markets, schools, police stations, and places of worship are potential targets for terrorists.
The embassy’s alert specifically mentioned that attacks could occur with little or no warning, and urged all individuals, including tourists and expatriates, to remain cautious and aware of their surroundings.
