The case of Wajir County Member of County Assembly (MCA) and Minority Leader Yusuf Ahmed has taken a shocking turn following the discovery of a body in Lake Yahud, just days after he was reported missing on September 13, 2024.
The confirmation of his death was announced by fellow politician Idris Bulle Mohamed, who revealed that Ahmed’s remains had been located and returned to his family.
“The body of the missing Della Ward MCA, Yusuf Hussein, has been found and delivered to Wajir,” Bulle tweeted. “
May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
He described the gruesome details surrounding the body, stating it had been disfigured, with its nose and ears severed, eyes gouged out, and the face burned to hinder identification.
The family confirmed the identification of the body by noting that Ahmed had a missing finger, a detail that helped them recognize him despite the severe mutilation.
“Disregard any rumors that his death is unconfirmed.
His remains were horrifically altered to prevent recognition, but the missing finger allowed us to identify him,” Bulle added.
However, conflicting reports emerged as two DNA tests conducted by a private pathologist indicated that the body retrieved from Lake Yahud did not belong to Yusuf Ahmed.
The family expressed concern over the negative results, which were obtained from samples taken from his relatives to aid in identification.
On October 23, Judge Alexander Muteti of the High Court ordered the submission of the DNA report in court by October 25, 2024, to further clarify the identity of the body.
Meanwhile, security agencies are still struggling to obtain crucial CCTV footage from the abduction site.
Senior Superintendent of Police Justus Imaana informed the court that they had not yet acquired video evidence from the area where Ahmed was taken on September 13, despite making requests to various entities along the route.
Imaana also mentioned that he had received negative feedback from the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) regarding further assistance.
“I can’t speculate on the route taken by the abductors as I have only secured two pieces of CCTV footage, and investigations are ongoing,” he explained.
On the night of his abduction, armed assailants seized Yusuf Ahmed while he was traveling home from South C to Pangani.
The attackers confiscated the taxi driver’s phone to prevent communication, but the phone inadvertently fell back into the taxi during the struggle and was later retrieved by the driver.
