A devastating incident occurred on Saturday morning when Dr. Krystal Cascetta, an esteemed oncologist at Mount Sinai Hospital, took her own life and that of her baby in their home in Somers, located approximately 50 miles northeast of New York City.
New York State Police reported that the tragedy unfolded around 7 a.m., with the scene pointing to a murder-suicide.
While the baby’s age remains undisclosed, Trooper Steven Nevel confirmed without a doubt that it was a murder-suicide.
The horrifying event came to light through a 911 call made by an individual inside the residence. Upon hearing the initial gunshot, the caller rushed to the baby’s room, believing something had fallen.

Tragically, a second gunshot followed, prompting the person to break down the locked door, only to discover the lifeless bodies of the mother and baby.
Dr. Krystal Cascetta was a highly respected oncologist specializing in breast, bone, gynecological, and gastrointestinal cancers.
She held prominent roles, serving as the site chief of the Mount Sinai Queens Infusion Center and an assistant professor of medicine in the hematology and medical oncology division at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
Cascetta’s contributions to the medical field were highly regarded, and she was inducted into a national honor society during her time at Albany Medical College, where she displayed excellence in clinical care, leadership, compassion, and dedication to service.
In addition to her medical career, Dr. Cascetta was actively pursuing a master of health administration degree at Cornell University, showcasing her commitment to continuous growth and learning.
