To elevate the quality of healthcare in Mandera County, non-governmental organizations have partnered with the local government to provide vital support.
A notable contribution came from Action Against Hunger, which collaborated with the Mandera County Government to distribute essential medical equipment to 18 facilities across four sub-counties.
The donation included a wide array of medical supplies such as mother-child weighing scales, trolleys, sterilization drums, infant-pediatric beds, nebulizers, fetal dopplers, thermometers, ward screens, examination lamps, pulse oximeters, suction machines, baby weighing scales, blood pressure machines, Ambu bags, fetoscopes, medical storage drawers, glucometers, examination beds, Mama kits, dignity kits, IEC materials, and life-straws.
These supplies aim to enhance healthcare accessibility and strengthen the healthcare system, particularly in outreach sites and health facilities.
The equipment will be distributed across Mandera North, Mandera South, Mandera West, and Banisa sub-counties.
Receiving the items at the Mandera County Referral Hospital, County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health, Mohamed Ali Omar, expressed gratitude for Action Against Hunger’s support, which he said is crucial for improving healthcare access and outcomes for vulnerable communities.
“Mandera County Government appreciates all NGO efforts towards improving healthcare services in the county,” he added.
Ali Bashir, the Coordinator at Action Against Hunger, highlighted that the primary goal of the donation was to improve healthcare for the target community.
Recent rains have significantly impacted Mandera County’s healthcare system, particularly affecting the sub-counties of Mandera West, Kotulo, Mandera East, and Arabia, and impacting 23 health centers.
The donation from Action Against Hunger is a vital support in addressing the challenges faced by these regions’ healthcare sector.
