Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has suggested that President William Ruto appoint former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu as Minister of Gender to weaken Kalonzo Musyoka‘s political influence in Ukambani.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Ngunyi recommended that Ruto should address the challenge of gaining support from the Akamba community, which remains loyal to Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
He proposed that appointing Ngilu, who has previously been a prominent figure in the Azimio coalition and served as Kitui governor for one term, could help counter Musyoka’s dominance in the region.
Ngunyi’s suggestion was aimed at diminishing Musyoka’s influence by elevating Ngilu to the Minister of Gender position, a role currently vacant following the dismissal of Aisha Jumwa.
“To diminish Kalonzo’s influence, perhaps President Ruto should appoint Charity Ngilu as Minister of Gender.
This would give Ruto two significant figures in Ukambani politics Ngilu and Alfred Mutua,” Ngunyi said.
Alfred Mutua, who previously served as Tourism Minister, has recently been reappointed as Labor Minister after protests by Gen Z youths led to changes in Ruto’s cabinet over the past month.
The Gender Ministry position, which became available after Jumwa’s dismissal, was initially expected to be filled by Stella Soi.
However, Soi’s nomination was rejected by the vetting panel led by Speaker Moses Wetang’ula in a parliamentary report presented last week.
