Baringo High School Principal Titus Ngetich has confirmed that no students were injured in a fire that destroyed one of the school’s dormitories early Monday morning.
The fire broke out around 5:30 AM, but most students were already in class for their morning preparations at the time.
“We have unfortunately lost the building and many of the students’ belongings,” Ngetich stated.
Eldama Ravine Member of Parliament Musa Sirma also reassured the public that all students are safe and announced that his office will provide support to the school in its efforts to restore normalcy.
County Director of Education Joseph Mwangi indicated that the ministry would conduct an investigation to determine the cause of the fire, which remains unknown at this time.
The damaged Mama Ngina dormitory, one of the oldest on campus, accommodated 75 students.
However, officials believe the incident will not significantly impact the school’s ability to house the affected students.
Local officials, including Eldama Ravine Assistant County Commissioner David Cheruiyot, along with a team from the Kenya Red Cross Society, visited the school to assess the situation.
All stakeholders have pledged their support to ensure students can continue preparing for their national examinations scheduled for October.
