Obama’s endorsement is a major boost for Harris, who has already received backing from President Joe Biden.
Harries, who entered the race at the last minute, has gained momentum following president Biden’s withdrawal due to concerns over his debate performance and polling numbers.
On Thursday, Harris launched a srong critique of Trump and his Rebublican allies while addressing teachers.
She accused Trump of attacking essential freedoms and criticized his refusal to schedule a debate with her.
Harris had previously expressed her readiness for a debate, challenging Trump’s claims of inappropriateness.
Harri’s candidacy received an early endorsement from the American Federation of Teachers, which applauded her speech in Houston.
Harris highlighted the challenges faced by educators and the threats to democratic values posed by extremist Republicans.
Trump meanwhile, has intensified his rhetoric against Harris, calling her a “radical left lunatic” and making unfounded claims about her policies.
He has also vowed not to fund schools with vaccine mandates, a policy affecting all public schools in the U.S.
