President William Ruto disclosed on Thursday that former US President Barack Obama is slated to visit Kenya next year to inaugurate the School of Leadership at the University of Nairobi (UoN).
Ruto made this announcement during the launch of the Kenya Young Parliamentarians Association Strategic Plan in Nairobi, highlighting his prior request to engage Obama during his State visit to the US.
During their meeting, Ruto underscored the significance of leadership, emphasizing that the establishment of the school would empower youth with essential skills to become effective leaders in the future.
Drawing inspiration from the prestigious Kennedy School of Leadership at Harvard University, Ruto envisioned a similar institution at UoN.
“When I was in America, I requested an audience with former President Barack Obama.
I proposed the establishment of a leadership school at Nairobi University, inspired by the Kennedy School of Leadership at Harvard,” Ruto stated.
According to Ruto, Obama pledged to garner support for the school before his anticipated visit, expressing his agreement to name it the “Barack Obama School of Leadership” at UoN.
Obama’s visit is anticipated to mobilize resources for the sustainable development of the leadership school, as Ruto highlighted the importance of nurturing future leaders.
Obama has a history of visits to Kenya, including a trip in 2018 following his tenure in the White House.
In 2015, during his presidency, Obama engaged in discussions with former President Uhuru Kenyatta, primarily focusing on bilateral relations between the US and Kenya.
